CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE 2003
Terroir
The parcel of vines is superbly situated right at the top of the hill of Corton with an east-facing aspect, above the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny. Worked by horse, the vineyard has an average vine age of 40 years and is planted on sand and gravel soils, with a chalk subsoil that is quite shallow and near to the surface.

Our oenologist's comments
A lovely, bright, brilliant colour with hints of silver and green. The nose is initially intense with notes of gun flint, cinnamon and toast, but there follow on from this typical aromas of chalk, stone and vanilla. In the mouth the remarkable softness is balanced by a lovely fresh, acidic profile. This is a concentrated wine with a remarkably long finish most redolent of fresh almonds, toast and rich, tropical fruits. It combines both suppleness and tension, with beautiful balance.
Sommelier's advice
One could match this wine with a fish in a light saffron sauce, or a shellfish gratin, but it would work equally well with a white meat such as roasted pork.
