CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE 2004
Terroir
The parcel of vines is superbly situated right at the top of the hill of Corton with an east-facing aspect, above the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny. Worked by horse, the vineyard has an average vine age of 40 years and is planted on sand and gravel soils, with a chalk subsoil that is quite shallow and near to the surface.

Our oenologist's comments
A lovely straw white in colour with hints of gold. The nose is initially expressive of mineral notes and white fruits, but there follow on from this some elegant oak influences with a touch of toast and brioche. It is only after a couple of minutes in the glass that the powerful mineral elements really show themselves. In the mouth the wine has excellent grip but also a certain finesse, with a racy balance between minerality and fruit and an overall texture that is both full and fleshy. The stirring of the lees and 21 months in oak barrels have developed the wine beautifully and with no racking and only a very light filtration, this is a beautiful wine which will certainly age very well. The finish is marked by a chalky minerality, which is typical of this parcel on the hill of Corton.
Sommelier's advice
One could match this wine with a fish in a light saffron sauce, or a shellfish gratin, but it would work equally well with a white meat such as roasted pork.
