CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE 2005
Terroir
The parcel of vines is superbly situated right at the top of the hill of Corton with an east-facing aspect, above the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny. Worked by horse, the vineyard has an average vine age of 40 years and is planted on sand and gravel soils, with a chalk subsoil that is quite shallow and near to the surface.

Our oenologist's comments
A lovely brilliant, bright, clear white gold in colour. The nose is powerful, rich and complex...it is very complete. The initial notes are of white fruits and toasty vanilla oak, but after a few moments in the glass the nose just keeps on changing and developing further with elements of yellow flowers, gun flint, toasted bread, hazelnut, fresh apricot...an almost inexhaustible spread of aromatics ! In the mouth the texture and structure are equally complex, with terrific bite, acidity and lean lime notes that are balanced by a richness, indeed fatness, that is not heavy or excessive. Overall, with a fantastic balance between fruit, oak, minerality and acidity, this is an excellent wine for keeping. The length is terrific, almost inexhaustible and encourages one simply to refill the glass to see what the wine will next reveal, and check that one has missed nothing !
Sommelier's advice
One piece of advice - ensure that whatever dish you serve with this will reflect the elegance and minerality so characteristic of this Corton-Charlemagne ! One could think of lobster bisque, truffled foie gras, fresh langoustines or even baked sweetbreads.
