CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE 2007
Terroir
The parcel of vines is superbly situated right at the top of the hill of Corton with an east-facing aspect, above the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny. Worked by horse, the vineyard has an average vine age of 40 years and is planted on sand and gravel soils, with a chalk subsoil that is quite shallow and near to the surface.

Our oenologist's comments
A lovely pale gold in colour with hints of green and silver - the wine is shining and clear. The nose is expressive, with notes of hazelnut, fresh apricot, white flowers and quartz. The overall aromatic structure is complex as the nose of the wine is forever changing as it unveils notes of toast, gunflint and almost a chalkiness. The élevage in oak barrels took 15 months with 40% new oak and the lees were racked extremely carefully so as to preserve the natural character of the wine. On the palate the wine is racy and there is a lovely balance between acidity and power. The texture of the wine is sensuous but not cumbersome and displays just the right amount of fresh acidity with a steely core that reflects the nature of this great terroir. The finish is long and intense with great minerality and notes of white fruits.
Sommelier's advice
It is necessary to keep this Grand Cru until at least 2015 or longer. This wine could certainly accompany, amongst other things, a foie gras tart with gingerbread and fig compote, lobster bisque, oysters or a selection of shellfish, or maybe crayfish with buttered leeks.
