CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE 2009
Terroir
The parcel of vines is superbly situated right at the top of the hill of Corton with an east-facing aspect, above the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny. Worked by horse, the vineyard has an average vine age of 40 years and is planted on sand and gravel soils, with a chalk subsoil that is quite shallow and near to the surface.

Our oenologist's comments
A lovely pale straw in colour with traces of gold. It is bright and brilliant thanks to an extremely light filtration just prior to bottling. The nose displays notes of white flowers, yellow peach, grilled hazelnuts and gingerbread. Following on from these initial aromas, as the wine opens further, there are also elements of fresh apricot, lime and confit orange peel. In keeping with the greatness of the vintage, on the palate the wine is full and firm with notes of iodine and minerals. The acidity is quite prominent which keeps everything fresh and also balances well with the roundness and richness of the palate. The texture is well defined and precise with crystalline, mineral and quartz elements and the finish is both long and racy, a testament to the 16 month élevage. Extremely well balanced, it would certainly be possible to appreciate this wine from 2012, but in ideal conditions it would be better to cellar it until at least 2015 and onwards.
Sommelier's advice
This Grand Cru could certainly accompany, amongst other things, a foie gras tart with gingerbread and fig compote, lobster bisque, oysters or a selection of shellfish, or maybe crayfish with buttered leeks.
