POMMARD- CLOS DE LA COMMARAINE- MONOPOLE 2009
Terroir
On the way to Beaune, the total vineyard of Pommard covers about 340 Ha all along the coast. Only red wines are produced in Pommard. The "Clos de la Commarraine" is located in the bottom of a slope which is inside the village itself, and the surface is about 4 Ha. The orientation is regarding to East and the soil is rather deep, with a good natural draining thanks to a large quantity of stones and pebbles. The vines are about 30 years old.

Our oenologist's comments
The wine shows a beautiful and deep ruby color. Despite a very wide filtration, the color is very brilliant and clear. A lot of different odors appear in the glass with air: first of all, a spicy touch (pepper, nutmeg...), then some oaky notes like mocha coffee, chocolate, vanilla and finally some beautiful fresh red fruits touches. Once again in 2007, this Clos was one of the first vineyard where the harvest started. Indeed, the balance between acidity and the maturity of the phenolic compounds was optimal. So that, the tannins are very deep, well-bodied but soft. The attack on palate is precise and reminds fruity and oaky tastes. This can be explained thanks to the 14 months ageing in French oak of 50% of the cuvee (30% of new oak on the total blend). The general harmony of this wine gives a lot of pleasure with a finish on purity et density. The elegance and the concentration into the wines from this Clos are really characteristic of this Terroir in Pommard: no way talking about any "rustic" Pommard style for this parcel! It's a wine to be drunk from now and up to 5 to 8 years.
Sommelier's advice
We can suggest to taste this wine with a shoulder of mutton, grenadins of veal in mushrooms and all the cheeses of character such as Époisses, a maturing Camembert, and of course Délice de Pommard! Finally, with desserts such as Tatin pie, a frozen nougat or a chocolate fondant and its red berries coulis.
